Canada’s Engaged University Highlights SFU’s Research Excellence and Leadership in Innovation at the 2018 #BCTECH Summit
As an Innovation Partner for every #BCTECH Summit to date, Simon Fraser University is proud to be continuing—and building upon—this tradition in 2018. The #BCTECH Summit is from May 14 – 16, 2018.
“The #BCTECH Summit is a perfect opportunity to showcase SFU’s leadership in innovation and strengths in big data research,” says Joy Johnson, SFU’s Vice-President, Research and International. “SFU’s innovation strategy—SFU Innovates—helps students and researchers mobilize their ideas for positive social and economic impact. And with KEY, SFU’s Big Data Initiative, the university is accelerating data-intensive research to deliver breakthroughs across the full spectrum of science and social sciences.”
At this year’s #BCTECH Summit, there are more ways than ever to engage with SFU researchers and innovation being developed at the university. SFU staff and industry professionals will be positioned and available to answer questions at prime locations across the Summit, including the Marketplace, Research Runway, Youth Innovation Day, the Virtual Reality area, and the South Foyer of Vancouver Convention Centre, where early stage start-ups will be on display.
This year’s Summit will be displaying an impressive 16 SFU research projects — this is largest number of SFU projects chosen to be showcased at #BCTECH to date. Johnson emphasizes, “Our researchers at this year’s Summit are prime examples of the innovative talent coming out of SFU, committed to solving problems that make a difference in society — and around the world.” Continuing to demonstrate SFU’s proven successes in local and global thought leadership, Johnson has been asked to speak at #BCTECH on Tuesday, May 15 in the session, “Harnessing the Power of Data for Innovation.”
